Through the generous contributions of the community and the City of Alton, we were able to raise over $50,000.00 to make much needed repairs to the playhouse during 2014-15, including stripping paint, painting the playhouse, performing extensive repairs to the exterior of the building and installing a security system. In 2017, the Playhouse Association, the City of Alton and a grant from the Madison County Parks Enhancement Program (PEP), provided the funds to replace the slate roof, the copper sheathing and gutters and repair the iron cresting on the top of the roof.

This page contains some of the before and after photos showing the beautiful results of those efforts. Efforts that couldn’t have been accomplished without the generous contributions of the community. Even though much has been done, there are always expenses in maintaining a building that is over 130 years old. There are annual expenses for security, lighting and landscaping. In addition, the interior was last painted nearly thirty years ago and is showing the need to be repainted.
